The theme of the conference: “Political parties and elections: Ukrainian and world practices” (in memory of Yuriy Romanovych Shveda) – scientific conference of the Department of Political Science within the framework of the project “Improvement of Methods and Tools of Political Science in Ukraine: Influence of the V4 Universities”. With support of the International Visegrad Fund.
Main directions/goals of the conference: Education, science and capacity building, increasing the volume of common formal and informal educational and scientific tools and opportunities for training teachers and researchers.
Date of the conference: 08/11/2019–10/11/2019 (working day – 09/11/2019).
The conference’s sections:
- The features of analysis and change of electoral preferences during the 2019 presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
- Electoral processes and transformations in the countries of the Visegrad Group and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the world.
- The dynamics of development of party and electoral systems in Ukraine, countries of the Visegrad Group and other countries of the world.
Preparation and holding of the fourth conference (with participation of researchers, lecturers, post-graduates and students (the latter as listeners) from Ukraine, countries of the Visegrad Group and other countries of the world) “Political parties and elections: Ukrainian and world practices” (in memory of Yuriy Romanovych Shveda) on the problems of methods and tools of Political Science, in particular in the analysis of parties and elections, party and electoral systems. The project partners (from the countries of the Visegrad Group) and some experts from Ukraine and other countries of the world, as well as the staff and post-graduates of the applicant’s department will be involved in the conference as speakers and listeners and students will play the role of listeners. All interested persons will also be invited to the conference.
During the conference, there will be presented the information directly related to the objectives of the project “Improvement of Methods and Tools of Political Science in Ukraine: Influence of the V4 Universities”. The key scientific issues of methods and tools of Political Science will be discussed during the conference. The emphasis will be on the methods and tools of party and electoral researches (both in theoretical and empirical terms). At the same time, the conference will take place in several sections (listed above) and will deal with Ukrainian and foreign clusters of party and election process. The received information will be distributed in the educational and scientific process and will be used to prepare a collection of materials based on the results of the conference under the condition of financial capacity of the applicant.
The target group of the conference participants mainly concerns the faculty and the department of the applicant-university, selected experts, relevant departments in other educational institutions of Ukraine and other countries of the world, project partners, etc. The selection of the participants of the conference will be held among the interested persons on the basis of their proposed topics. The priority in the selection of the conference’s participants will be given to university lecturers and analysts of different research institutions. Participants of the conference will have the opportunity to share information that will be further distributed in relevant educational and research institutions of Ukraine, countries of the Visegrad Group and other countries of the world, and can also be used to improve the methods and tools of Political Science in Ukraine (in particular, in the study of political parties and elections, party and electoral systems). With this in mind, those who cannot attend the conference, but who are interested in its subject, will have the opportunity to improve the skills of methods and tools of Political Science through the conference materials, and hence they are the non-target group of the project. The results of the conference will be also interesting for representatives of the authorities, administrative and party organizations.
The role of the project applicant is to develop the main vector and sections of the conference on the problems of methods and tools of Political Science. The organizers of the conference from the applicant-department will collaborate and communicate with the speakers from Ukraine, the Visegrad Group countries and other countries of the world to coordinate the topics of their speeches (which will be used for the relevant publications according to the conference results). The integrity and structuring of the themes of speeches at the conference sections (on the methods and tools of Political Science, in particular from the point of view of the problems of parties and elections) will be ensured on the basis of their similarity and distinction. If possible, an attempt will be made to organize a student section of the conference or at least to involve students in speeches at the conference.
